Highlights
An itinerary dedicated to gourmets: prestigious red wines, delicious chocolate and gentle landscapes of hills covered in vineyards... and in the distance, the magnificent arc of the Alps. Piedmont is elegance, style, but also nature and rich food and wine. Start in Turin, Italy's first capital 150 years ago. The influence of its French neighbours is very evident here, so much so that it has earned the name 'Little Paris'. Less imposing towns such as Pinerolo and Saluzzo will also surprise you with their medieval character. Still not convinced? Then we'll take you by the throat with the noble wines of the Langhe and the delicious cuisine that has become a fine art in Piedmont.
- The vibrancy and elegance of Turin
- Tastes of Piedmont's food and wine tradition
- The magnificent landscape of the Langhe and Monferrato
What awaits you
The first part of the route is easy, especially the flat stretch from Turin to Fossano. Then, as you enter the Langhe, the route has some slight gradients until you reach Barolo, and in Monferrato from Alba to Casale. But don't worry, all your efforts will be rewarded and, in any case, there is always a rewarding view at the top of every hill!

Read more1. Individual arrival and first night in Turin
Welcome to the first capital of Italy! Turin is a very welcoming city with a long industrial tradition, but in recent decades it has seen an increasingly rich cultural heritage flourish. Between the Po and its three other rivers, more and more cycle paths are taking hold. For a sweet welcome, try the famous bicerin, a drink made of coffee, chocolate and cream, typical of Turin.
2. First stage by bike from Turin to Pinerolo
Today you start from Turin and cycle along the Po river and its small tributaries, on cycle paths and small roads, until you reach the foothills of the mountains. You will pass by some of the wonders of Turin, such as the Medieval Village, the Valentino Castle and the Reggia di Stupinigi, a splendid rococo residence of the former Savoy family, a masterpiece of the architect Filippo Juvarra. From park to park, still along the rivers, you reach Pinerolo, a charming town that was once home to the most famous cavalry school in Italy.
3. The countryside and the villages of Cavour and Saluzzo
Back in the saddle, you ride through orchards and vineyards until you reach Cavour, famous for its curious “Rocca”, a moraine hill in the middle of the plain, now a protected area. You will then reach Saluzzo, where you will spend the night. The city welcomes you with its medieval heart, cobbled streets, squares, elegant noble palaces with beautiful gardens.
4. Fossano with its castles and arrival in Cherasco or Bra
Today, Fossano awaits you with its medieval atmosphere, narrow streets and numerous churches. After a visit to the majestic Castle of the Princes of Acaja and the Cathedral, you will get back on the saddle for a few climbs before reaching the Castle of Manta, a fascinating medieval fortress with Monviso in the background, and the Castle of Costigliole. Then you reach the ancient Roman town of Benevagienna, with its archaeological area, before arriving in Cherasco, a city with seven centuries of history and art. Alternatively, you can spend the night in Bra, the Italian capital of taste, famous for being the headquarters of the prestigious “Slow Food” organization, founded by Carlo Petrini to promote the right to good, clean and fair food for everyone. If you want to taste the typical goodness, try Bra’s long risen bread with Bra’s sausage or the soft cheese of the mountain pastures, Bra Dop!
5. In the heart of the Langhe to Alba, the city of truffles
Today you cycle in the Langhe, surrounded by a suggestive landscape. The first stop is Pollenzo (also known by its Roman name of Pollentia), home to Slow Food’s University of Taste and a historic center with ancient Savoy palaces. Then it goes on to Alba, on a flat route along the Tanaro River, until you encounter some easy climbs to reach Barolo. Here, there is also a castle, where you can taste the famous wine of the same name. Finally, you reach Alba, famous for its white truffles and its tower houses. If you wish to cycle more, it is possible to extend the stage through the splendid hills of the Langhe, Bra, Grinzane, before reaching Alba (+10 km).
6. From Alba to Asti, in the Roero area
Leaving from Alba, today you will plunge into the heart of the Roero: along the way you will come across the beautiful castles of Guarene and Cisterna, the latter of which houses a rural museum with about 4,000 objects dating from the 17th to the 20th centuries, testimony to Piedmont’s artisan and rural culture. Arrival and overnight in Asti, a city rich in history, famous for its sparkling wine and the Palio, held every year on the first Sunday in September.
7. Last stage to Terruggia
The last stage awaits you! Enjoy the charming hills of Monferrato, also rich in vineyards, until you reach Moncalvo, where you can enjoy wonderful views. In the afternoon you will reach Terruggia, a noble village on the heights of Casale Monferrato, where you will spend the night and end your tour. If you prefer, you can continue on to Casale, a baroque town at the foot of the Monferrato hills on the banks of the River Po (+15 km). Leaving Alba today, you will plunge into the heart of the Roero region: along the way you will come across the beautiful castles of Guarene and Cisterna, the latter of which houses a rural museum with around 4,000 objects dating from the 17th to the 20th centuries, testimony to Piedmont’s artisan and rural culture. Arrival and overnight in Asti, a city rich in history, famous for its sparkling wine and the Palio, held every year on the first Sunday in September.
