Highlights
The "express" version of our beloved bike route in Tuscany. From the Leaning Tower to the Ponte Vecchio, pedaling along a route that winds through vineyards, olive groves and an architectural heritage of historic villas and adjoining gardens that look like real works of art. A total immersion in the relaxed Tuscan countryside dotted with art cities and villages. A few examples? Lucca, Montecatini, Collodi and Pescia.

What awaits you
Four days on the pedals along a flat route with some hilly sections, which do not require special training. The stages are on low-traffic back roads with short dirt portions. Optional pedaling or train connections are offered on some days to shorten the routes.
1. Arrival in Pisa
The city famous throughout the world for its Leaning Tower welcomes you. After settling in at your hotel, you can head to the scenic Piazza dei Miracoli to take a closer look at this bizarre bell tower, the city’s Cathedral next to it, the Baptistery, and the Campo Santo. The entire complex is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and offers, in addition to its valuable monuments, the friendly and lively atmosphere of a university town.
2. On the pedals to Lucca, through the Serchio River countryside
Today’s route is almost completely flat: you can choose an easy stage that takes you northward, pedaling along the Serchio River and through the Pisan countryside until you reach the village of Ripafratta and then the city of Lucca (25 km, difference in altitude +130m/-115m). For a more challenging ride, you can choose a slightly longer and more demanding route, that skirts the eastern side of the Monti Pisani and then runs along Lake Massaciuccoli. Once you arrive in Lucca, you have the rest of the day and the entire evening to explore the city’s beautiful architecture and gardens. Don’t miss the Duomo with its beautiful bell tower, the imposing Piazza Anfiteatro, and the incredible roof garden on the Guinigi Tower, a corner of green that soars into the sky.
Shorten the stage You can shorten the stage by taking a train to Lucca from the Ripafratta station.
3. To Montecatini among gentle ups and downs, historic villas and a visit to Collodi
Today’s ride begins along the Serchio River bike path and then heads into the peaceful Tuscan countryside amid a landscape of hills, vineyards and olive groves. The route takes you to the ancient historic residences of Lucca’s nobility, inhabited over time by aristocratic families, cardinals and wealthy merchants. You’ll pass Villa Reale, Villa Grabau and Villa Mansi: architectural treasures that can still be visited today, along with their beautiful gardens designed as true works of art. Taking a scenic road, you then reach the small village of Collodi, where the author of Pinocchio spent his childhood. Here you can visit the famous Pinocchio Park, as well as the historic garden of Villa Garzoni. A bit more pedaling and you reach the town of Pescia, where you can stop for a stroll among Renaissance churches and mansions or for a visit to the original Hesperidarium botanical garden, the Citrus Garden. At the end of the day, the spa town of Montecatini, with its beautiful pedestrian-friendly old town and lively nightlife, welcomes you for an overnight stay.
Shorten the stage You can shorten the stage by taking a train to Montecatini from Pescia station.
4. Toward Florence: the climb to Monsummano and the beautiful city of Pistoia
Today’s itinerary is a bit more challenging than the others, but if you prefer a “softer” day, you can shorten the ride with a short train transfer to Pistoia, a city rich in Romanesque and Renaissance monuments and with one of the most striking squares in Italy: Piazza del Duomo (total length 50 km, elevation gain +240m/-250m). The first kilometers out of Montecatini are the most challenging, with the climb of Monsummano, a scenic climb among olive trees that leads you to the medieval village of Montevettolini. Descending along the plain of the Ombrone stream, the route then joins the main one coming from Pistoia. Immersed in the Tuscan plain, you pedal along country roads between crops and plant nurseries until you reach the Arno River, which accompanies you into the heart of Florence. The capital of the Renaissance hosts you for the next two nights; you just have to decide how to spend your time in one of the most beautiful cities in the world!
Shorten the stage If you’re not up for a challenging ride, we strongly recommend shortening the stage by taking a train to Pistoia, thus shortening the stage by 15 kilometers, and avoiding the first 6 kilometers, which are very hilly.
You will sleep in 3*/4* hotels carefully selected for you. The lodgings are easily accessible from the bicycle route and located near major city attractions. Breakfast is always included.

Hotels usually serve a continental breakfast. However, in some smaller hotels you may find the typical Italian breakfast, consisting of a hot drink, such as cappuccino or coffee, with fresh pastries, such as cake, croissants or toast and jam.
Luggage transfer
Your luggage will be transported from hotel to hotel every day starting from the first day of the standard tour until the last day of the tour.
For the luggage transportation we accept only 1 piece of luggage per person with max. 20 kg.

Cancellation policy
In the event of unavoidable and extraordinary circumstances occurring at the place of destination or in its immediate surrounding area and having a substantial impact on the execution of the package or on the transport of travellers towards the destination, the traveller has the right to withdraw from the agreement before using the package, without paying withdrawal costs.
In all the other cases of withdrawal from the travel agreement, the traveller is always required to pay a withdrawal penalty. Read more

Our e-bike is the right choice if you do not feel trained enough to spend more days on a saddle. You can easily adjust the assistance of the electric motor: from a mild pedaling support, to a more intense boost, which is especially useful on starts and uphill climbs. - order the best product on the market, SP Connect™ with a special discount. The SP Connect™ mount is attached to the handlebar and works only with a special phone case. This case, which can also be used in everyday life, is slightly thicker than normal cases and is fixed to the handlebar mount with a simple click. The main advantage is that it is easy to attach and remove your phone, so you can immediately use it to take pictures or make calls, as well as grab it quickly when you want to stop cycling and have a break. If you arrive by car, you can park the car in Pisa for the whole duration of the tour. Some hotels have a private parking place, while in other cases you have to use alternative car parks. Florence is connected with the following airports: Firenze (FLR) and Pisa (PSA).
To get to Firenze Amerigo Vespucci (FLR) airport:
- Line T2 GEST from Firenze Alamanni-Stazione Santa Maria Novella (approx. 20 min)
To get to Pisa (PSA) airport:
- Trenitalia train from Firenze Santa Maria Novella a Pisa Centrale. From here shuttle People Mover to the airport (approx. 1,5 hour)
Documents
If you are a citizen of the EU or of a Schengen country – i.e. most EU countries and four European Free Trade Association (EFTA) member states, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland – you are free to travel to other Schengen countries without having to go through border controls.

Tour programme variations
- Due to organisational reasons, weather conditions or provisions issued by local authorities, the itinerary may be subject to some changes before and/or during your holiday. For example, along the way you may find temporary deviations caused by roadworks, which cannot be foreseen; in this case please follow the indications you will find on site.
Special diets
- If you are vegetarian, gluten-intolerant, allergic to some specific ingredients/substances or if you suffer from any other kind of allergies please indicate it at the moment of booking. We will pass the information on to the hotels, but we cannot guarantee that all dietary requests will be met. Sometimes it is difficult to find particular food, for example gluten-free food, so we suggest that you bring your own snacks just in case.
Travel insurance
- It is advisable to take out an insurance policy against expenses arising from cancellation of the tour package, accidents, luggage (loss and damage), as well as a contract covering expenses in case of repatriation. Insurance policies are not included in the tour package offered by the operator.
