How it works Comfort

Accommodations vary from country to country, and the number of stars assigned to a hotel or other lodging doesn’t always tell you exactly what it will be like. In the same star category, you might find wider or narrower beds, rooms that are more or less spacious, air conditioning or a ceiling fan, an elevator or stairs, and reception available 24 hours a day or by appointment only. On multi-stage trips, you’ll sleep in different lodgings, each with its own characteristics.

That’s why we “invented” four comfort categories: bronze, silver, gold, and platinum. The designated comfort category of each trip will tell you what to expect.

Depending on the trip, you might sleep only in hotels, or in farmhouses, B&Bs, hostels, lodges or even aboard a barge on bike and barge holidays. Don’t worry: there is an assigned comfort level for every type of accommodation!
