Behind the scenes

Who we are

Tour operator

We are travelers too

We are a big team with many different personalities, but the one thing that unites us all, is that we are all travelers. We have walked, biked, and flown all over the world so that’s why planning a trip and selecting the best flights and hotels is second nature to us. Want to know more? Here you can read the Girolibero Manifesto

How we plan our tours

Every step of your itinerary is planned out precisely; we rely on trusted professionals we’ve worked with for many years to make your trip a reality. We have people selecting your accommodation, while others make the schedule and handle unforeseen circumstances. Of course our team also tests all the tours, and at the back-end we have people making sure our website runs smoothly. Lastly, don’t forget about the people maintaining all the bikes, our tour leaders (we’re all on a first-name basis!), and trusted collaborating companies around the world. One thing’s for sure: traveling with us is a carefree experience!

Why Girolibero

We take care of every little detail

Our tours come with so many decisions and research that was done behind the scenes before you booked your trip. We’ve spent endless hours on the phone with your tour leader, to plan everything down to the last detail. We spend our time studying digital maps of your route and compiling the information material for your departure. Don’t even ask us how many water bottles we’ve tested, or how many biking bags we’ve tried, because we’ve lost count! The great thing is, you won’t even notice all these little details, because our research paid off and has turned into a tour that runs smoothly, like a well-oiled machine.

From one discovery to the next

Our trips are made to be savored, one stop at a time, without any rush to reach your next destination. Take the time to enjoy each place, each visit, each experience with curiosity. You start every day not knowing what to expect and stumble from one surprising discovery onto the next.

On foot, by bike, by boat, or a mix of everything!

We’ve chosen to see the world from different points of view: we’ll take you along one of our 4 boats or have you mount one of our 2500 orange bicycles. We collaborate with many guides and tour leaders to make our itineraries by bike and by boat a success, and sometimes there’ll even be a crossover between the various means of transport! Come with us to explore by land, by sea, and by river.

Discover the highlights and off-the-beaten-track routes

On our tours, we’ll take you to the not-to-be-missed highlights of your destination, and we’ll show you the unusual, authentic and little-known gems as well. Many of our experiences are directly related to the local cuisine, because we want you to meet the locals and have a taste of their traditions and experiences in nature.

No unexpected surprises

For each trip, you can see all the costs without filters and calculate your quote online independently and without any obligation to book. You’ll also find a section called ‘the quote includes’, in which we break down the cost of all the activities, experiences, and people that make our trips worthwhile. Here’s to full transparency and no unexpected surprises!

Happy headquarters

Our tours are born in Via Conforto da Costozza 7 in Vicenza. This is where our headquarters are located, and it’s designed to make you feel right at home. It has plenty of fresh air and big floor-to-ceiling windows, so everyone has enough space and light, even during wintertime. We also have standing desks, lemon plants, a Pilates room that also serves as the ping pong room. If you are curious to see our location, you can take a peek on Google Street View.

Our operating bases

Bolzano

Bolzano is our base for cycling holidays on the Adige cycling route – Italy’s main biking route – with a large number of cycle tourists departing every week from April through October.

Mantua

The Porto Valdaro shipyard is the winter depot for the Ave Maria and the Vita Pugna, our river ships for our Bike and Barge tours. From April to October, our captains move the boats to Porto Catena, a tourist mooring just outside the city walls. Discover our Bike and Barge tours in Italy.

Pisa

Pisa is our operating base in Tuscany with over 150 bikes for our cycle tours. Between late March and early October, our on-site colleague delivers the bikes, transports the luggage, and is your point of contact if you need help. Discover our cycling tours in Tuscany.

Lecce

Lecce is our operating base in Puglia with over 150 bikes for our cycle tours. Throughout the season our on-site colleague is the primary point of contact for Girolibero travelers: from bike and luggage delivery to assistance.

Orléans

Orléans is our operating base for tours with stops by the Loire Valley Castles. Here, our colleague Leonardo provides the orange bikes (about 200!) and double-checks and test drives them before each departure. He also transports the luggage, and is there to help you if need arises

Aigues-Mortes

L’Estello and Caprice, our two Girolibero boats in the south of France, moor in Aigues-Mortes with Sara and Filippo looking after them year-round. Discover more about our bike and barge tours in France.
